International Sexual and Reproductive Health

Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are important public health issues. They concern women, men and their children throughout the entire life cycle. Parents’ health condition influences the health of their children and even of their grandchildren. The society should create conditions for a good sexual and reproductive health through legislation, education and access to sexual education, appropriate nutrition and health care. The role of health services is to prevent, treat and manage sexual and reproductive ill-health such as unwanted pregnancies, complications in relation to child-bearing, sexually transmitted infections and gender-based violence.

Our research group studies SRHR in Sweden as well as internationally. Many projects are interdisciplinary and have a gender perspective. The research questions are investigated with qualitative and quantitative methods and we increasingly focus on intervention studies. We have collaborative projects with researchers in other countries regarding nutrition, youth health, women’s health, as well as within care and support related to pregnancy, birth, breast-feeding and parenthood.
