There has been a rapid development within pediatrics during the last decades. This has been possible through advances in research. When clinically active pediatricians also conduct research scientific results can rapidly be transferred into clinical practice. At the department of Women´s and Children´s Health we conduct clinical and experimental research with focus on health and disease during infancy, childhood and adolescence. The research is conducted within research groups which are coordinated with the different units at Uppsala University Children´s Hospital. There are two research laboratories at the department. The research projects encompass asthma and airway diseases, inflammatory diseases, child health, endocrinology, metabolic diseases and obesity, nephrology, gastroenterology, oncology, neurology, neonatology, pediatric surgery and international child health. The many fields of research reflect the wideness of pediatrics.
